The Kāinga Ora First Home Grant was previously available to first home buyers who had been contributing to KiwiSaver for at least three years and met Kāinga Ora’s income and house price caps.
Kāinga Ora stopped accepting new applications for the grant from 1:00pm on 22 May 2024. In order to be eligible for the first home grant you must have lodged your application with Kāinga Ora prior to the cut off time.
Pre-approval is valid for six months so if you have pre-approval for the first home grant, you need to be wary of the date your pre-approval expires as you will not be able to reapply. Particularly if you are relying on the first home grant to make up part of your purchase price.
