First Home Buyers – Are you eligible for a First Home Grant?

First Home Grant

The First Home Grant eligibility criteria is as follows:

For first home buyers you must:

  • be over the age of 18;
  • have earnt less than the income caps in the last 12 months;
  • not currently own any property;
  • have been contributing at least the minimum amount to KiwiSaver for 3 years or more;
  • purchase a property within the regional house price caps;
  • commit to living in your new house for at least 6 months.

For previous home owners you must:

  • not have received the First Home Grant or KiwiSaver HomeStart Grant/KiwiSaver deposit subsidy and/or first-home withdrawal before; and
  • not have realisable assets worth more than 20% of the house price cap for existing properties for the area you are buying in.
